the snow's coming down
Notes: This is a part of mine and suruberry's headcanon verse that we've created. Continuity-wise, it's a mishmash of comics, cartoons, and movies. We've basically gone about cherry-picking what we like and leaving out a lot that we don't, so things are probably not gonna line up right with any one singular canon verse since there's bits from a lot of different places. Hopefully, someone else enjoys this just as much as we have.

the snow's coming down
The holidays aren't really one of Tony's favourite times of the year. Growing up, Tony didn't really celebrate them – Jarvis would make him a nice dinner, there would be gifts, but his parents were practically never there – and as he grew older, that detachment (and yes, dislike) towards them only grew. Pepper and Rhodey had always had families to go home to, but Tony had never really had one.
That's changed, and Tony's still a little bit confused about how that happened. He's not sure when it happened, but he's practically been adopted into the Wayne family. It's overwhelming, Tony feels a choking gratitude that lodges in his throat when he thinks about it.
Course, that also comes with its own set of new and slightly terrifying situations, but Tony kind of thrives on this sort of thing. But he wishes that his heart would stop leaping up into his throat because it makes it difficult to breathe. He has enough issues with that already and doesn't need more.
Damian is quite excited about the official tree lighting, but in that typical Damian way of his. He keeps pretending that he isn't excited and that its a pointless, silly tradition which he sees no point in. It's not a particularly good cover, because Damian always gets very belligerent and huffy when he's excited about something; it's like he thinks that they'll think less of him if he shows excitement over something that he's deemed 'juvenile'.
Tony thinks it's cute. He's also just a little bit excited about the entire thing himself. Probably cause Bruce is making it all official that they're going as a family.
He's still trying to adjust to the whole idea that that's what they are now. Tony had thought he'd left that little dream behind him and crushed it along with much of his childhood, but apparently not because his heart does that ridiculous little flutter against his ribs whenever he thinks about it.
Alfred sees them off, making sure that they're all dressed for the cold of a Gotham winter. He promises that he will wait up for them and have the traditional snack and drinks ready for them when they return. Tony would be lying if he said that isn't looking forward to it.
Central Gotham Plaza is fully decked out in Christmas cheer for the occasion. There's even a Christmas choir. It might not have all the spectacle of the tree lighting in New York, but there's an intimate charm to the entire event.
Since it’s late in the evening, there’s quite the crowd crammed into the plaza and they blend in. A little. There’s still the occasional look, mostly because both of them are too well known to not be recognized.
Tony’s pressed up against Bruce’s side, latched onto his arm, and appreciating the warmth and strength of Bruce’s body. Damian’s darted through the crowd, probably heading for the front and the best view, while Tony’s content to snuggle into Bruce’s side and stand towards the far end of the plaza.
“You enjoying yourself?” Bruce asks softly.
When Tony cranes his neck to look up at him, he can see the little furrow in Bruce’s brow that means he’s nervous about something.
“Course I am,” Tony says with a grin. He arches up onto the balls of his feet, and brushes his lips against the corner of Bruce’s mouth. “I’m here with you."
The problem is that Bruce is far too aware of Tony’s issues and a terrible tendency to overthink even the littlest thing. Bruce always seems worried that he might do something that’ll shock Tony, scare him away, but Tony already knows the majority of Bruce’s dark little secrets. Including the big one – that he’s Batman.
Tony has to pull away from Bruce, just enough to reach up and smooth away those frown lines between Bruce’s brows. Once that’s done, he has to stretch to kiss Bruce, their breath mingling together in a little cloud between them. He catches the tree lighting up out of the corner of his eye, but that’s not important.
“Told you before, I’m not going anywhere."
FIN.
