Infuriating Agents
When double-oh-four strolled in, arm in a sling and a raised eyebrow, Q knew that his day was not going to get any better. But he wasn’t about to let anyone know just how much double-oh-seven had gotten to him.
He looked at double-oh-four, and keeping his voice even, asked, “Do you need something, double-oh-four?”
She slid her equipment across the table towards him; it was a bit scratched but was otherwise in one piece. Well, at least someone knew to return equipment in one piece. But when Q looked up at her, there was a knowing smile on her face and a glint in her eyes.
“He likes you.”
And then she turned and walked away, leaving Q behind and wondering just what the hell she was talking about because double-oh-seven definitely did not like him in any way, shape, or form. It was entirely preposterous to even consider such a thing.
Two months later, when everything comes to a head and he walks into Q branch with some not-so-well-hidden marks on his neck, he might realize just what she meant. Of course, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t hate that smug smile on her face when she rolls her eyes at him and tells him that she told him so.
It seems to be a requirement for double-oh agents: Must be infuriating. Q thinks it’s a perfect descriptor for them.
FIN.
