Clint wakes in the middle of the night, voice caught in his throat on what might be a scream. Even though Natasha is pressed up against his chest, warm and real and there, it's the lingering memory of warmth at his back that makes him curl around Natasha, trying to forget it.
He pushes the memory to the back of his mind, tries not to think about it, what losing it means, but the ache in his chest never quite goes away. But he's good ad he locks it away with the pain.
Natasha is there and they have to be strong for each other, but it's difficult and hard and it's just not the same. There's supposed to be someone there, there's always been someone else there.
But now there isn't. He's just a memory in Clint's head.
