(run and hide) play along
The first time that Tron saw the sunrise, it stole his breath away. It was almost like the first time that he made Sam smile – really smile – only it reminded him of just how different his world was from the User world.
Tron remembered seeing the sky lighten. It changed from the dark black and deep blues of night to the grey of twilight. At first, Tron had thought at first that it was just the lights from the city because it wasn’t possible for the sky to change. But then he noticed the thin line of reddish-orange along the horizon and he realized his mistake.
The sky was changing.
He’d pressed his hands up against the glass of the window and watched as the sky seemingly erupted into an entire spectrum of colours. Each colour was as vibrant and bright as the lines of circuitry that marked a program, only it was the sky and he was in complete awe. The User world truly was amazing.
And this was the world that he now belonged to.
Pressing his hand against his chest, Tron felt the heavy beat of his heart in his chest. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the sight of the sun rising. He’d never seen anything so awe-inspiring before; he didn’t think that he could ever tire of it.
His breathing fogged up the glass from how close he was to it, almost pressed up against it. The light reflected off the water, turning it a brilliant shade of red in the early morning light. It was so different from the Sea of Simulation – it glowed and changed with the light, it wasn’t an endless line out to the horizon and the portal.
Tron was so caught up in watching the sunrise that he didn’t realize Sam was awake until Sam was right behind him. He turned to look at him, breath catching in his throat at the sight of a sleep-tousled Sam in the early morning light.
“Morning,” Sam said, rubbing his eyes. He blinked at Tron and yawned, coming over and wrapping his arms around Tron’s waist. “Sorry, I meant to show you but I guess I was more tired than I thought.”
Tron smiled, taking in how Sam’s hair glowed, turning to brilliant gold in the light and how the light made his skin look warm and flushed. “It’s fine.”
Sam bit his lip and returned the smile, “Do you like it?”
Unable to look away from Sam’s face, Tron nodded, “It’s… beautiful.”
“Yeah, it is,” Sam said, pressing his cheek against Tron’s shoulder. “It’s a new day.”
And a new start, Tron added. He cupped the back of Sam’s head with his hand and turned back to watch the sun rise. The smile hadn’t left his lips. He was ready to face this new day with Sam.
