knew i needed you

He wakes up to the light from the fire and Stitches telling him that it’s time.

Detangling himself from Cullen proves to be difficult, simply for how tightly Cullen’s wound himself around Bull. He’s buried his face into the crook of Bull’s neck and tangled one of his legs around Bull’s, thigh pressing close against his dick. Cullen’s also got an arm across Bull’s chest, fingers brushing lightly up against the edges of the lion on Bull’s shoulder.

He catches that hand in one of his, gently pulling it away and Cullen makes a soft noise.

The leg between Bull’s twitches, tightening its hold. Cullen’s breath is hot against his neck as he nuzzles closer. Cullen’s still asleep, though, so he’s not responsible for the way that Bull’s cock twitches in interest.

Bull has to roll them carefully to dislodge Cullen’s leg from its position. It also dislodges Cullen’s face from where it was buried in his neck and that is enough to wake Cullen.

Cullen blinks up at him sleepily, amber eyes unfocused and bleary with sleep, “Bull?”

It comes out sounding more like ‘bwuh’, but Bull gets it.

Looking sleep-muddled and not even half-awake, Cullen’s absolutely adorable. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to distract from the dark circles under his eyes. Cullen needs sleep. Lyrium withdrawal and stress have done a number on him; whatever rest he can get, he needs desperately.

“It’s alright,” Bull soothes, smoothing back Cullen’s hair and kissing his forehead. “Go back to sleep.”

But Cullen surprises him.

Rather than letting him pull away, like that, Cullen shifts, tips his head, and his lips brush against Bull’s.

It’s the lightest, chastest kiss Bull’s ever had.

But it sets his skin on fire, sends sparks racing down his spine.

And Cullen looks delightfully innocent, sprawled out mostly asleep in his tent in his bedroll. Bull blinks and stares, questions burning on the tip of his tongue.

Stitches clears his throat. He’s out of time.

Cullen’s already curling into the warmth that he left behind, murmuring softly and barely coherent, “Good luck.”

He’s asleep before Bull’s out of the tent, sprawled out under a heavy fur from a bear Bull killed a year or so earlier and more blankets than Bull can count.

It’s incredibly tempting to just duck back in, wake Cullen up good and proper and take him up on what that kiss sparked inside of him.

But he’s got a job to do.

Krem’s on watch at the fire, a knowing smile on his face, “Good sleep?”

“Best I’ve had,” Bull grins. “You’ll keep an eye on him while I’m gone?”

Rolling his eyes, “Yes, I’ll keep on him like I’m his mother. I’ve already told the others – Skinner, by the way, cooed when she found out.”

“Lovely.”

Krem shrugs, “We’ll make sure he eats while you’re gone. Been meaning to check out the Inquisition’s troops anyway.”

The Herald’s waiting for him, hand wound in the reigns of his horse and chatting with that Tevinter mage that they originally met in Redcliffe. Dorian Pavus, Bull remembers.

And judging by the shy smile on the Herald’s face, he’s interested.

Huh, he’ll have to keep an eye on that. There might be something worth sending back there. If nothing else, it’s a matter for concern. But one for another day.

They’ve got bigger worries. And ‘sides which, he’s pretty sure that he’s a taken man now.
